The Palace of Shirvanshah stands within the walls of Baku's old
city. It was built in the middle ages and shows wonderful skill and
craftsmanship in architecture and stonework. Our tour guide often
pointed out where "masters carved leaves of grape and fig," as
decoration around the windows and doors (see right).
