In Avaran we were among the Lezghian relatives of Leyla's dad, some
visiting, some who live there. We had missed a wedding earlier in the
week.
Tajir's daughter, on the far left, is a doctor and lives in
Novosibirsk. The boy in front is Methoon, who is a lot of fun.
His mother, behind him, says he makes friends everywhere they go.
Tajir's younger son, Shahmurat, is shown on the right having tea with
me. He speaks English, and his job as an air traffic controller
doesn't hurt those skills any.
We took walks along the village roads. It is quiet, but not isolated.
