Hi All!

Hello, this is a test post and an introduction. I am joining this blog to chronicle our start as a homeschooling family. I will be homeschooling my 9yo son next year. We are very excited about it.

I plan on using most of Laura Berquist's recommendations to start off with. I have several friends who recommended this after trying other things first. I have ordered a few things to get started with in the summer and plan on ordering more little by little so as to be ready to start full steam in September.

Hopefully this will be a happy tale, although I'm sure there will be ups and downs.

God Bless, Johnna

Welcome to the blog, Johnna! We started with Mrs. Berquist's classical approach, too, though we've also improvised quite a bit in the details.

We started out 3 years ago when our oldest was nearly 7 (2nd grade), having been in Catholic school for two years prior. I was thankful someone pointed me in Laura Berquist's direction, as I was able to avoid purchasing a curriculum that we may or may not have liked. I've heard so many people who start out w/an expensive curriculum wind up being disappointed because it wasn't working out for their family.

Like Bill, we've learned to improvise a lot. The beauty of homeschooling and designing your own "curriculum" is you are less likely to suffer burnout and can alter things around what's going on in your family at the time (job change, moving, new baby, family crisis, etc.). With five children, we try to do as much together ("school"-wise) as a family as we can.

Metaphysics is the finding of bad reasons for what we believe upon instinct, but to find these reasons is no less an instinct.
